I go places, and I see things. There's certainly no way for a simple device like a camera (and certainly not an iPhone) to fully capture the grandeur or history or culture of a place. I recognize the strong limitations of clicking away at what I see—yet I still do it so I can remember what I've seen and where I've been, and so I can share it with others.
I recently learned the meaning of the word "synedoche." It's where a part of a thing represents the whole, and it struck me that that's what I do with my photos: I rarely try to capture the whole of a thing; I try to capture pieces to impart their flavor. Hopefully, this will stir the right memories for me when I look back at the images, or fill a random viewer with wonder about where I've been and what I've seen.
A palm frond sun shade in Da Nang represents the entire miles-long beach
Half of a knight's cowl represents the armor collection in a museum
A single alligator represents the Florida swamp
You get the idea.
